Professional Development Institute

The St. Louis Graduates Professional Development Institute is a professional development series designed to provide college access leaders from high schools, postsecondary institutions, and nonprofits the necessary tools to support postsecondary access, success and completion for low-income students.

About Professional Development Institute (PDI) Workshops:

• Offer problem-centered content, supplemented by direct instruction
• Provide opportunity for individual or peer reflection, dialogue or facilitated interaction
• Focus upon immediately relevant content
• Engage professionals of differing levels of experience

The half-day sessions (8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) are devoted to understanding the theory behind best practices in postsecondary success. In 2012-13, PDI Workshops will focus on four themes:

• October 17: Family Engagement

• November 8: Self-efficacy/Resilience

• February 7: College and Career Readiness

• March 14: Transition from 12th to 13th grade

Who Should Attend

PDI Workshops are designed for high school, postsecondary and nonprofit professionals who:

• Work directly with teens/young adults or manage a program that does,
• Are currently employed in the fields of counseling, education or nonprofit college access/success or pursuing a degree in a related field,
• Have interest in how best practices evolved and the data that demonstrates why they are best practices, and
• Are looking to enhance strategic thinking that will guide program planning and facilitate collaborations with like-minded organizations.
